Post David D. from Boonville
Hello, My name is David. You might know my brother Mark. We have been messing with VWs for at least 30 years so you have probably seen my mug at some point and time. He, more than myself, is usually at BNNTA in his 66 Westy. An awesome camp out. Well this year I believe I will be driving my 71 tin top Westy. Found it out behind a barn in Boonville neglected for over 25 years. Well I put my hands all over it for the past three years as funds and time allowed. I feel it is a 20/20 looker. Not perfect but lots better than before. I rebuilt the 71 engine, went through the brakes, steering, lots of cutting grinding and welding. Then since I have no compressor I spray bombed it and color sanded it. No 20K Restoration but it is paid for and I am not afraid of scratching it either.

Dean, thank you. The interior is not finished as of yet. All of the westy goodies are intact minus the rearmost cushion and has a couple of holes and dings but very useable. I converted the cooler into a 110v fridge fusing a mini fridge into the original westy cooler. Front seats have 45 year old seat covers that sluff off onto floor every time I get in and out.

Welcome David, finally got in. Wow that Westy looks pretty good. So that's just color sanded spray paint?

We have a camping & float trip event in July (Kombis & Kayaks) you should bring the Westy. It's near St. Robert, MO. Daniel will be coming down from Columbia.

Thanks. Lots of sweat equity. It ia actually satin finish from Rustoleum heirloom white. With a little rubbing on with 1000 grit and some polish it shines right up. Longevity? Time will tell. It is holding up nicely in the garage LOL.
