Post Brad from St.Louis
I found this site by doing a google search. I am currently rebuilding a 1970 standard bug. At this point I have replaced the pans and had the frame sandblasted and powdercoated satin black. I have already had the motor gone through and rebuilt and have bumped it up to a 1904cc. Just recently I have started to strip the body to get ready for paint. It is down to bare metal now. I am going to do the body work and send it off to get painted. My plans for the car are to lower it to the ground. Just the look I am into as I am 25 and think it looks cool right now. I have ordered a narrowed beam and shocks and have already set the back torsions back a few clicks. I am needing a transaxle that can handle my motor and people have told me that I need a 3.88 ring and pinon. Has anyone had any similar issues? I will post pictures soon so you have an idea of where I am in my project. I am pretty proud of it! Been slowly acquiring stainless bolts for the car as well.

I'm running the stock 67 tranny in my bug with a 2110cc motor, with 2 44IDF Webers. It'll out run 5.0 Mustangs. As long as you don't dump the clutch, the tranny should live. I do have a 3.88 ring and pinion. I like the taller gear for highway driving. My car is low too, and I'm older than 25 by a bunch. Everything I own is low.

Thanks for the info dean! Where did you purchase your new ring gear at? How much of a hassle is it to rebuild the transaxle?

A little update on my build! I have gotten the transaxle mounted onto the pan and have also bolted the motor in! I am pretty excited. I hope to have my new front beam in about a month. Going to run disc brakes all around. Time to start on bodywork now. Pretty proud of this bug! Also trying to purchase a 52 ford truck right now for my next project!

Didn't mean to sound like I had a new ring and pinion, it's the stock ring and pinion that's in the 67 tranny.

Been a long time since my last update as summers are my busy time of the year. I got my front beam from Airkewld and got it all installed. I painted the steering box to match. Ordered my front disc brakes so should have those installed within the week. Starting on the body work this week. Hope to have a couple doors and fenders in primer this week.
