Post Karl Bussen from Columbia MO
Whats up team VW? I'm new to the forum but not new to Volkswagens. My family and I love our Westy and we hope to meet many new friends at events.

Here is my story:

It was up to me to buy my own car for my 16th b day. I was fourteen when my friend picked me up in his 68 beetle to go street skating. As he rolled up I was "like seriously bro, whats up with the car?" Then as we drove off I was hooked on the simplicity of the Volkswagen. The search was on to find me a VW beetle. I searched for a while with no luck until one night my friend and I drove down an alley and up over a hill only to see a beetle tucked in some weeds by some rail road tracks as a train was passing by. $75 later I had my first VW (Oh snaps I still have it). I washed dishes and saved enough to paint it, drop it, and put some 8 spoke interceptor wheels on it and had it legal and was driving the day I turned 16.

Here is another recent story, my wife and stayed at a cabin @ Acres Fairy followed by lunch at Montauk State Park. We were driving our Passat and we saw a Westy with a canoe on the top drive in the wooded curvy road environment. Up until this time I was only dreaming about buying a bus for my family to enjoy, seeing this bus in this element triggered some serious motivation and actually purchased our current Westy the very next day. It was up the street and around the corner from my home and the guy gave us a great deal. Sooo, that the story I tell people about our bus "Sunset Camper" after "Sunset Cabin" ha ha right. I was telling this story to TimFromwashmo who I just met at cooper landing over the weekend and he says, "That was us, we were in Montauk last June with a boat on top!". Then I realized I was standing by the bus that drove by with the canoe on top that triggered us to by out bus. Good times good times? Alright thats my other stories.

I drove your bug like 14 years ago!!
Never would have guessed that I'd be hanging out with you and the family this many years later, talkin' VWs.

Too cool.

Glad to see you found ACMO Karl. Got some of your fine photography hanging in the house. Get lots of comments on it. Hopefully the Bussen clans will hook up some time this summer!

I have never seen anything like your 72, it looks great!

So is it a coincidence your last name is Bussen? Or is this just internet tomfoolery?

Welcome aboard. That certainly is one of the best looking supers I have ever seen. Point one of those rides toward Effingham in two weeks. You will meet a lot of us up there.

Welcome Karl. I was the guy in the green Ghia that matched your jacket @ Machen VW show a few months back. You going to make Effingham Funfest weekend after Memorial Day. I'll be roll'n through Columbia mid-day on that Friday in my bus. Headed to Weston on Saturday 18th for the day. You should roll on up.
