Post Re: Running Rich..... Again
Picked up a carb from Archway and got it installed last night. Everything went back together and the car runs!

I did notice a flat spot on acceleration and read where the 34-pct has some issues when ran with a 009 dizzy. Luckily I'm not running a 009. I need to run through the car and tune it up from the top down (Valves, plugs, timing, etc) and then re adjust the carb. I remember someone saying that everything else should be in line before adjusting the carb anyway.

Here's my dizzy...

So here's hoping for some good luck! After I get that squared away I'll get the Petronix ignition and new coil installed.

edit: I'll post up some pics of the old carb, but the thing looked like it had seen better days.

I'm a little late replying to this, been working like a madman...

Took care of all the adjustments: Valves, points, timing, oil change and THEN the carb adjustments.

I felt like I just fidgeted and fidgeted until I got a working combo on the carb bypass and volume screws. Although it's running nice now, I wish I could break it down to more of a science. This is when it's nice to have a vet on hand because I'm super insecure about my own work.

I can officially attribute some of the gassy smell in the cabin to the gas tank. Not sure if I have a hose leak or what, I need to check that out still. But when I go up/down hills I'm hit with a wave of gas. I quite like the smell, but the Mrs. wont ride with me until I get it fixed.

Yeah check your tank hoses. Pretty sure late superbeetles have a vent on the neck area. Make sure it's hooked up.
