Post Missouri State Penitetiary
Leslie and I took a night time tour of the historic MSP in Jeff City last night . It was a late b'day gift to her.
We did the history tour a few years ago and it was way cool. The night time one was pretty cool as well, but could have been better with a smaller group and maybe just done with flashlights? They do not have all of the lights working by any means just enough to see your way through.
A 'lil history M.S.P. opened in 1836 & closed in 2004!! Lots of the buildings have had updates through the years but the main housing unit you got to spend the most time in on the tour was built in 1883 and was used up until the day the place closed..We got to spend time in the "dungeon" way creepy ,said the longest person ever held down there was 18 years! pitch dark ,dirt floor, and right outside the cells was the whipping post..
Last stop on the tour is the gas chamber where 39 folks took there last breath by gas and 1 by lethal injection ,creepy
The tour guides are former and current guards that worked at the prison while it was in operation ,very cool if you are into history 'cause those guys have thousands of stories to tell.
I would recommend anyone do this tour as it is well worth the money

nice story, Daniel !
A few yrs ago we did a similar tour of the old State Pen. in Philadelphia ,,, built
in prolly similar times in the 1800's & it was well worth the price of admission ,,,
Al Capone was their most famous "guest'
A lot of it was in similar state of decay & disrepair, but Architecture was amazing.
