Post any of your 2014 Fall color tour photos?
Feel free to post up any nice Fall color touring photos you took of your old VWs this year (2014).

I'll start:

Image

My '70 Ghia Coupe had been penned-up in the back of my garage by an immobile '59 Double-Cab project for over a year and a half, and had only been started up on a couple of occasions inside the garage. I finally have the Double-Cab mobile again, and last Wednesday the day was beautiful and the Fall colors were approaching their peak, so I pushed the DC out of the garage and jump-started the Ghia to take it on a drive. After a quick wipe-down, I threw a bag of tools into the car just in case, checked that the fire-extinguisher was properly charged and ready to go. My wife Kathryn jumped in and away we went. I had a half tank of "old" premium gas so I immediately stopped to fill the tank with fresh premium fuel for the trip. We live on the outskirts of St. Louis, MO, so I took off on a back-roads trip through as much rural countryside as possible. We drove on old Hwy 94 from St. Charles thru West Alton, MO, crossed the bridge over the Mississippi River into Alton, IL, then turned north and then cruised the 1776 powered Ghia up the scenic Great River Road to Pere Marquette State park to check all the Fall colors along the way.

Image

It was a lot of fun to get the Ghia out on the road again after her long forced hibernation, and she ran very nicely! Here we were heading up the G.R.R. around the village of Elsah, IL.

Image

On the way back home we took a route that gave us two different ferry rides across both the Illinois ("Brussels" ferry) and Mississippi Rivers ("Golden Eagle" ferry) and back to our home. A very nice and thankfully uneventful Tour of close to 80 miles!

Okay, who is next with 2014 Fall Color photos?

To find fall colors in AZ we had to drive up to about 8000' on Mt Lemmon near Tucson a couple weeks ago.
While up there a thunderstorm erupted then rained and hailed on us for about 15-minutes.

Great to see the Ghia out and about Bill. Same goes for Velma Roy.

Not a route, but here are a couple pics of Herbie in the backyard that I took last week in front our weeping willow tree.

Blue Ridge Parkway last week during our yearly fall roadtrip.

We had to leave the Blue Ridge Parkway because the bottom brush spring popped off the generator (no idea how.) Causing us to have to drop off the parkway and find a town with some old VWs we could scavenge one from. Either way, tons of pics at http://hopventure.tumblr.com/ .

Awesome! You need to post up a separate thread on here with a nice description (and lots of photos) of your Fall vacation VW roadtrip in that old Bus! We wanna see it!

And Mike, I just saw the special plates on Herbie! Awesome! Hey, what's with the bump-up on one of the bows of your sunroof? Herbie looks great!

That is a good question Bill. The front bow sticks up because I have NEVER gotten the TMI sunroof cover (with that stupid lip around the edge) to fit property. So it lifts up in the front and as a result the first bow sits high. That being said I'll have to tear into the assembly in the spring because something is rattling like a sum-bitch on the highway.

Yep, Their modern Goodyear Eagle LS2's disguised as 70's GT Radial's. It's a movie correct touch to make the Herbie purists drool...

Yeah, that was me. We ended up getting a motel in Jeff City (didn't want to break anything) and went to B&C Monday morning. They were quick and helped us swap the seal but sadly it didn't work. We made it about an hour down the road before the new one also started leaking. We had to get home (to work) so we just drove home with the (now smaller) leak. Called them and they offered to mail us a seal kit to do it our self or drive it the two hours back out there for them to try again. Don't have an extra day to drive down there right now so I'll have to try and replace it myself once I can talk Dave into helping me.

That is more than most shops would offer you I can tell you that.
If it started again I wonder if the part that the seal sets in could be worn/flawed??
I have done them before and they leaked...did it over again & boom it worked? That's old shit for ya!

Glad ya made it home non the less.
