Thanks y'all!
The heat puts out 140-degrees at my dash within a mile or two and works really well since my system is sealed up tight and so is the bus. Thought the sunroof would be drafty but not so much like the Thang is. Heat is good but its noisy since its just a raw pipe in there without all the thick aluminum fins casted onto it plus I don't have the muffler style connector tubes just strait flexible tubes on there now.

Bill, I'll be honored to be your cabbie on Sunday December 29th when you land in Phoenix!
See you then.

Woooo Hoooooo! We'll get our "Mex" on and compare notes about all the lumps of coal we got in our Christmas stockings! I can't wait to finally see you again. I just hope my flights operate routinely!

So "everybody shut up, strap your asses in and shut off those laptops and cell phones! I gotta get to Phoenix on time!"

Bill

Roy and I had a FANTASTIC time in Phoenix a few days ago! Roy pulled off a huge surprise for me, and rather than me babble about it, I'm hoping that Roy will pop on here to tell his tale about my recent visit. I think he took a bunch of photos too! I shot a few also, but mainly I was constantly surprised at what he managed to pull off for the day.

Mmmmmm... Valle Luna... mmmmmm!

Roy? You can start a fresh thread about this I think?

Bill

p.s. Here is the link to the thread that Roy started on our visit:

Roy!

We need more updates on all of the fun you are having with the gals and the ABC and that luscious Deluxe out there!!!

Great news!!! I have vacation time off for the last two weeks of Sept, so it looks like I'm a "go" to fly out West and attend my first "Jerome Jamboree" weekend and therefore I can accept the ABC's offer to drive and camp in the Jerome "raffle Bus"! And as it happens, the weekend following the Jerome event is the Solvang Vintage VW show and weekend in Solvang, CA. So I might fly from PHX to SFO and drive one of Mark Merrill's old VWs in the clandestine "Solvang Vintage VW Rallye" racing old vintage VWs from the S.F. Bay Area on quiet backroads all the way down to Solvang on Friday for the weekend show. To top it all off, a Bay Area buddy has offered to plop me into his stock '56 Oval Convertible for the mid-week period so I can cruise around during the week and up to NAPA Valley, or perhaps over to Yosemite Valley? God damn it! Could be a fun VW end of Summer vacation extravaganza! Hopefully it'll all work out...

Anyway, please post up photos and tales of your latest exploits Roy!

Bill

Solvang is a cool town, that whole central coast area is cool. Driving an ac vw thru wine country is nice.

If you would just give in and assimilate to Facebook already, you would know the Shelton motor is out again due to oil pressure and knocking issues!

I refuse to go over to the "dark side"! I'll (hopefully) never assimilate!

Man! I am bummed to hear that Al's motor is acting up again! Isn't this the second time?

Head-up Roy! Can't wait to hear from you! How was the recent Vegas visit (I saw the skydiving clip!). Did you jump?

No, I did not jump...that was my daughter Alyssa jumping with a group of friends .

Yea, second time out but I'm tearing into it this time myself. Dry starts have been knocky since I got it back and oil pressure is real late to come up after starting. Have a persistent light knock now and only have 4000-miles since the recent rebuild . Want to investigate and fix now before it gets real expensive. Should have my spare 1641 cc in it this weekend and back behind the wheel ;)

Enjoyed the article you sent in about me in the Arizona Bus Club newsletter!

Did a couple aeronautical mods to the bus last week and I'm really enjoying it :)

I love the 3 sets of louvers on each side plus the tail boom louvers! Very racy! And the "bottom side skylights for downward viewing is a stroke of genius! You ought to be able to fly that beast eastward to the upcoming BNNTA in August much faster than driving it! Now I gotta get another PHX layover so we can go for a flying tour of the Superstitions...

Please say hi to Dawn, the girls and Nyla, you old Grandad.

Hey Roy, can you get the ABC to send me a copy of that issue of the newsletter with your story? I didn't get one. Thanks!

You can print your own right from the site or just browse it. Pictures are better if you download first.
Should be the April edition. I think you made an edition back in January or February.

Last Sunday a few local bus pilots and I met for a round of disc golf and a nice cruise up to the Seven Springs area near Cave Creek, AZ just an hour north of Phoenix. This stretch of Arizona is about 3500' elevation and the areas near the creek had abundant trees and vegetation with sights and smells that reminded me of Wildwood, MO.

Pretty much every weekend I can find a VW camping or adventure event within a tankfull or so :)
Had a nice campout 50 miles south of Tucson this past weekend...23 buses and 3 beetles.
Made a deluxe trim necklace for a raffle prize at the campout.
Made the 3-hour drive home by taking a 6-hour detour up Mt Lemmon and over the Catalina's on some forest roads.

Sights and smells that reminded you of wildwood?? Must have been motor oil and Teds VW collection!
